The story

A rendezvous is one of life's sweet but fragile moments, and there is no better metaphor for it than sugar. It is sweet, and a single drop of water makes it vanish without a trace – just as the most beautiful moments live on only as memories.

How it was made

Sugar is brittle and fragile, and even the moisture of a breath starts to dissolve it, so the artist had to work in completely dry conditions. He shaped the jug, the glasses and the apple separately with tools of his own making, then polished them to a mirror finish.

Did you know?

Every grain of granulated sugar is a single sucrose crystal. The artist had to find a grain whose face was flat and stable enough to serve as a table.
